I thought the colored umbrella on a gray rainy day would give a lot more emphasis than it actually did. So I went back and took the close up and felt that had the 'emphasis' I was looking for. The emotion in the second picture is hard for me to say, because he is my son and I know exactly what emotion he had :). But, I think the emotion brought to the second picture is one of rain, and gloom and tired of the rain? I would have liked to not have so much pink on his face but the umbrella was directing it directly onto his face.
I love the way the wall swoops through this photo and you did a great job catching the motion. The monocromatic coloring and the splash of color work well. I wonder what would have happened if you would have had your son hold the umbrella out to his side and tip his face to the sky?
