Taycia "variety"

F 7.1
ISO 400

This breaks the rule : of fill the frame with the subject, cropping tight.
Instead I allowed space around the subject; and let it interact with the environment

Taycia "texture" breaking the rules

The Rule:
To balance the weight of the main subject with another object.
Broken:
Didn't include any other objects in the picture

Taycia "texture"

F 3.5, ISO 400, AWB
I started photographing my cat because I thought it was a great example of texture as everyone, unless allergic, likes to reach out and pet a soft furry cat :)

ANGELA-Breaking Rules

I broke the rules here by not keeping my camera steady. I caught this shot by whipping around and snapping the shot.

Shutter Speed: 1/50

Apeture: 22

Focal Length: 62mm

ISO: 200

I was already breaking the rules by shooting between noon and 1. I did this because this is when we were out playing.

I broke the rules again by not keeping my image straight.

ANGELA-Extra Space/Emphasis/Proportion

Apeture: 4.5 Shutter Speed: 1/60 Focal Length: 31mm ISO: 800 White Balance: Auto I know I am using extra blog space this week, I apologize. I regularly take photos at events we put on at work. They most likely have crazy lighting and tight space. These are from last night's Nothing But Networking event. Sometimes photos from these types of events can get tedious. I tried to pay careful attention to all the elements this week and tried to create emotional images or at least a give the viewer a feel for what was happening...networking. Apeture: 8 Shutter Speed: 1/60 Focal Length: 92mm ISO: 800 White Balance: Auto

Jessica "Fence"

This is actually 3 shots of construction fencing, layered over each other. I like it because is kind-of emphasizes the nature of "fencing" - as a barrier. It is abstract. I love pattern. 4/6/11

Jessica "Grocery Cart"

(Another photo from Fred Meyers.) I placed a second layer of the same image over the first, flipped it upside down, and made it transparent. Then I worked with the color. (I love pattern.) 4/2/11

Jessica "Bottle Bouquet"

Still at Fred Meyers, this is a photo of bottles from above. I manipulated the image in Photoshop. I like how it looks like a kaleidoscope image... lots of shades... (soft, analagous colors). This was shot with my little camera. 4/2/11

Jessica "Grocery Store"

I took a few photos while shopping at Fred Meyers on Saturday. This one was interesting to me because it is so ordinary. To me, changing it to black and white makes the content of this "story" more clear. This is a sene that's "so boring, it's interesting." But having said that, I'm not sure it is a successful image. Maybe I need a person, looking into the camera or something? 4/2/11

Jessica "Reflection"

I liked the "other reality" we see from the reflection, in addition to the "plain" scene around this small body of water. I played with the color in Photoshop. The red made it a little more surreal, for me... a little more dreamlike. Shot with my small camera. 4/3/11.

Jessica "Old Photo"

This photo was taken out of the Tumwater Library window last Saturday. The window was crusty and gave an interesting "feel" to the backyard scene. It reminds me of those old photos we find in some basement. We peer into them, trying to see what life they might represent. Shot with my small camera. I manipulated the color in Photoshop. 4/2/11

It took me some time to work with the objects to get them the right distance and angle so as to make the cork as big as the bottle and glass. It was fun though to watch it change as I moved things around. I am still working on creating a picture that invokes emotion. :)

I liked this as the line of the pole draws me into and up the picture and then my eyes roll down the flag.
The second picture I took was of the bricks surrounding the flag which had a puddle over them and the reflection of the flag. The emotion I wanted to create was one of remembrance, but, might have lost the illusion of 'space'.

I thought the colored umbrella on a gray rainy day would give a lot more emphasis than it actually did. So I went back and took the close up and felt that had the 'emphasis' I was looking for. The emotion in the second picture is hard for me to say, because he is my son and I know exactly what emotion he had :). But, I think the emotion brought to the second picture is one of rain, and gloom and tired of the rain? I would have liked to not have so much pink on his face but the umbrella was directing it directly onto his face.

Dawn

This was one of those fleeting moments when the sun was shining in my living room window. I grabbed the camera, sat next to the window and took a couple of shots. It would have been much more interesting if someone were coming out of the hallway. But I like the depth that was created with the shadows. And the blur of my stained glass hanging.

ISO 200 - f/4.5 - 1/125 - white balance auto

Perspective - Dawn

Same glider - further out. Loved the dimension it put with the islands in the background. I did not have a lot of time to think about the shot, so I just took several. These two were the best. ISO 800 - f/6.3 - 1/1600 - auto white balance

Just looking at this makes me want bacon! I was messing around with my camera taking pictures of everything. I took a picture of a commercial on TV. I like how this one turned out. I cropped the top picture to see the bacon without the distraction of the background light. F6.3, 1/60 sec., ISO 3200, auto white balance.

In the right place at the right time. Saw hang gliders - grabbed camera - he was there then just took off - got lucky! ISO - 800 - f/6.3 - auto white balance - 1/1600

Tracy "Proportion/Scale"

This photo was to show the size difference between a workout ball and a baseball. I worked on getting the shot to show the shadow of the baseball so it looks 3D. I took the second shot from the floor looking up at the balls giving a different view.

F5.6, 44mm, 1/20 sec., 3200 ISO, auto white balance.

Nicole "Emphasis"

The subject/emphasis in the photo was obvious. The first picture: F/5.6, 1/25 sec, ISO 200, auto white balance. I cropped the image in the second photo and changed the white balance to cloudy to change the mood of the picture.

Nicole "Proportion"

F/5.6, 1/400 sec, ISO 100, Auto white balance. I showed more of the wall in the second picture to show the difference in size between the shells and the surrounding.

I wanted to go back and take a another picture of this but was unable to. I would have come at a different time of day to change the mood. I also wish someone would have been walking down the beach!

Photo 2

I was taking some pictures of my cute little neice. (Trying out my lights again.) The first picture is cute...but its just a normal picture of a cute little girl smiling. So I waited for a moment when someone in the room made her laugh really big and I caught that expression (Photo 2) which made for a much more intersting photo.

Then to add a little bit more interest to the photo, I added some flower petals through the magic of PhotoShop. (I took a picture of the petals and then added them in layers to the photo. I put a blur on some of the layers to make it appear as though they are farther away.)

Both photos were taken with the following settings:

I took these pictures on my recent trip to Arizona. I took the first picture and noticed that you couldn't really get a good feel for the vastness of the desert area that I was admiring. The picture didn't "see" what I was seeing. So I zoomed out a little bit and took a step to the left to include a nearby cactus that would help show the vastness of the desert scene.

Camera Settings were the same for both pictures:

I had a polarized filter on

Tracy "Space"

I took the Space assignment to the extreme by photographing the entire room in the church to just photographing the cross at the front of the church from the floor looking up. I couldn't get over how much space was in this room and I had to post this picture. They didn't turn out as clear as they were on my computer. The top picture was taken at F4.0, 64mm, 1/25 sec., Auto White Balance. The bottom picture was taken at F8.0, 44mm, 1/15 sec., ISO 3200, Auto White Balance.

ANGELA-Emphasis #1

Shutter: 1/80

Apeture: F8

Focal Length 31 mm

ISO: 400

White Balance: Cloudy

Photo taken along Ruston Way in Tacoma, WA.

This was about the time my husband said, "Did you realize it's raining, I am not sure how wet you want your camera." I had not noticed yet...I learned I need to get a camera rain jacket. This is an interesting image to me because of the melding of nature and man made elements.

To add emotion to this shot I would have waited for or staged a person or persons to walk over the bridge with an umbrella(s) in a bright color; maybe red or bright green.

I was trying to show the size of the ships using the scale of the bench and my husband/model. Also I was using the background (ship, port etc.) to show distance and size.

Shutter: 1/320 Apeture: F5 Focal Length: 60 mm ISO: 200 White Balance: Flash Photo taken along Ruston Way in Tacoma, WA. I have learned that it is hard separating the elements such as space, proportion/scale and emphasis and thinking of them as individual elements and not a piece of the whole when I take a photo.

Shutter: 1/250 Apeture: F5 Focal Length: 110 mm ISO: 200 White Balance: Flash Photo taken along Ruston Way in Tacoma, WA. I was trying to create a mood of a quiet afternoon spent watching the harbor. I was also in awe of the size of the ship and how it makes a person seem small. I learned how much goes into creating an image that has depth.
